Behaviour

Changing vegetation and animal communities in the subarctic from a warming climate may have varying effects on the behaviour and nest success of breeding shorebirds. We answer questions using a combination of behavioural observations, experiments, field-based measurements and remote-sensing data.

We compared the nest site characteristics and antipredator defense behaviour of two species breeding at the northern and southern edges of their respective ranges.

We used presence-only species distribution models to visualize the potential suitable nesting habitat for Short-billed Dowitchers in Churchill, Manitoba.

Following an extreme storm event, we documented a rare breeder pushed close to shore due to flooding.

Migration

Where do the cryptic, understudied shorebirds go?

Overview

We deployed radiotransmitters on Short-billed Dowitchers and Stilt Sandpipers in Churchill, Manitoba in the first targeted study on the post-breeding migration of these species.
